*NEW* American Sayings
Se si cresce sentendo sempre certe espressioni o frasi, può essere facile trascurare quanto siano effettivamente strane. È il caso di una serie di americanismi – i detti americani che siamo talmente abituati a pronunciare che ci dimentichiamo che in realtà non hanno alcun senso o sono stati così lontani dai loro significati originali che ci vuole un linguista per collegarli. Spesso ci vuole un estraneo per far notare quanto siano strane alcune espressioni americane – uno straniero che può alzare un sopracciglio nella confusione al giro di parole che molti negli Stati Uniti danno per scontato. Vi insegnerò 30 di queste frasi americane che lasciano i non americani a grattarsi la testa.
“Knock on wood.” – is an apotropaic tradition of literally touching, tapping, or knocking on wood, or merely stating that one is doing or intending to do so, in order to avoid “tempting fate” after making a favorable prediction or boast, or a declaration concerning one’s own death or another unfavorable situation.

axiom – a statement or proposition which is regarded as being established, accepted, or self-evidently true.
weather – withstand (a difficulty or danger).
downturns – a decline in economic, business, or other activity.
countercyclical – contrary to or tending to counteract the fluctuations in an economic cycle.
nosedive – deteriorate suddenly and dramatically.

Every person is different and each of us has our own learning method.
